What is the grant?

The UK government announced funding to boost innovation and productivity in the agricultural industry. Environment Secretary, Steve Barclay, shared news of a substantial £45 million allocation towards shaping the future of farming at the Country Land and Business Association conference last year. The 'Improving Farm Productivity Grant' marks the second phase of grants aimed at facilitating the installation of solar equipment on farm roofs and reservoirs. This grant is not for ground-mounted Solar PV systems.

There were two stages for applicants. Stage 1, which was to assess eligibility for the grant and project alignment with funding priorities, is now closed since March 21st. The current grant is part of round 2, however, round 3 can be anticipated in the future.

If you have already applied online, the next step in Stage 2 is completing a comprehensive application if the RPA extends an invitation. They will provide a deadline and evaluate the value for money in alignment with funding priorities. The application deadline is currently set for the 30th of June, 2025.

How much money could you recieve?

The Round 2 funding opportunity for Solar PV equipment offers a substantial 25% of the total cost. To qualify for the grant, the project must meet a minimum cost threshold of £60,000. The grant itself starts at a minimum of £15,000 and can go up to a maximum of £100,000. The maximum system cost eligible for the full £100,000 grant is £400,000.

What does it cover?

The RPA is focusing its funding on projects that enhance productivity and environmental sustainability, while also implementing innovation and technology to address labour shortages.

  • Solar panels
  • Solar batteries
  • Inverters
  • Utility Meters
  • Electrical grid connections
  • Power Diverters.
It also covers robotic and automatic technology, ventilation control units and wavelength-specific LED lighting.

What's required to complete the application?

You will need to have your Stage 1 online application and the project number provided by the RPA in your invitation. It is common to make some adjustments as the final costs of your projects may have changed and been confirmed. Additionally, you should also have the following:

  • A comprehensive breakdown of the projects expenses
  • Supplier information
  • Key installation dates
  • A financial forecast showing the impact of the equipment and evidence that it will enhance your business’s efficiency and productivity
  • Any information on past grants
